The First Rejection

A chapter about a 4:17 p.m. email, three weeks of preparation, shaken self-worth and realizing that one answer cannot define a whole person.

Rejection and worthlessness are different; timing, needs or another person’s choice may shape the result without defining the whole person.
01

The email arrives at 4:17 after three days of waiting

Every phone light quickens his heart. The subject is short and polite, yet he already knows the ending.

02

Three weeks of preparation close in a few lines

Weeks of revising details and believing this time would differ end with “Thank you… however…”.

03

The deepest pain is not only losing an opportunity

He begins doubting his own worth, as though one selection could speak for the whole person.

04

The mind turns rejection into questions against the self

“Am I not good enough?”, “Did I not try enough?” and “Did I choose the wrong path?” appear first.

05

Being rejected and being without value are entirely different

An external decision only says this opportunity did not happen. It cannot conclude the value of a whole human being.

06

Rejection may come from reasons that do not define you

Timing, different needs or another choice may create the result.

07

Some rejections teach more than praise

Weeks later, he sees what to improve, what he truly wants and how to separate self-worth from outcomes.

08

Some doors do not open because they do not lead to your journey

The first rejection is not the end. It may be the day one learns that worth cannot be decided by a single answer.
