Is Life Purpose Found or Created?

One person spends years searching for a life passion. Another begins with ordinary work and gradually comes to love it. One believes purpose waits to be discovered; the other believes it grows through repeated action.
Does purpose already exist, or is it formed?
People often want a clear answer to why they exist. Yet very few begin with a complete purpose. Most begin with small signals: an interest, a responsibility or work whose future significance is still unknown.
A sense of purpose often grows through commitment
When people invest in work, a community or something useful, the connection deepens. What begins as a task can gradually become part of how they understand themselves.
Action creates experience, experience strengthens values and values form purpose
We do not need a complete purpose before acting. Starting, experimenting, learning and contributing create experience. Experience reveals what matters and which direction deserves continued effort.
An ordinary career can gradually become a purpose
A new teacher initially wants only stable work. Years later, former students return with gratitude, and she realizes teaching has become more than employment. It is a purpose she could not see at the beginning.
We do not need to find purpose before beginning to live
Living kindly, learning, working and contributing each day may be the road toward purpose. Waiting for a perfect answer can prevent us from gaining the experiences required to form it.
Purpose rarely appears like lightning
It often grows quietly across seasons of life. A seed does not know the final form of the tree, and a person does not need to see the entire future in order to keep growing.
Purpose may be the result of a consciously lived journey, not its starting point
Every small choice contributes to the person of tomorrow. When we live with presence, responsibility and contribution long enough, purpose can emerge from the person we have gradually become.
