Public, Private & Selective Sharing — Not Every Proof Should Be Public

How to choose the right visibility for Profiles, Projects, Results, and Evidence on Forwork instead of assuming all proof should be public.

01

Public should not be the default for every proof

A public portfolio is useful, but client data, internal metrics, confidential documents, or strategic decisions may not belong in public.

02

Step 1 — Evaluate sensitivity

Does the information contain personal data, NDA material, business secrets, private metrics, unpublished work, or internal context?

03

Framework: Sensitivity → Audience → Permission → Visibility → Controlled Proof

Sensitivity — how sensitive is the data?

Audience — who truly needs access?

Permission — what exactly may they see?

Visibility — public, private, or selective?

Controlled Proof — can value still be proven without overexposure?

04

Public works for broad signals

Profile summaries, selected work, public case studies, Tips, and Events can often be public when no restrictions apply.

05

Private works for internal-only material

Drafts, raw feedback, internal documents, confidential evidence, or unannounced projects may need to stay private.

06

Selective Sharing fills the middle

A client may see the full case; a recruiter may need summary plus results; public viewers may only need selected evidence.

07

Redaction preserves proof while reducing risk

You can hide client names, exact metrics, sensitive screenshots, or internal identifiers while preserving Context → Contribution → Result.

08

Visibility should be entity-specific

A Project can be public while Evidence stays private. A Result can be selective. A Letter can be fully public.

09

Machine access is also visibility

AI readability and third-party indexing should obey the same permission model instead of creating a separate visibility path.

10

Conclusion

Do not ask, “Should I make this project public?”

Ask: “Who needs to see which part of this project to understand the value while preserving confidentiality?”

Sensitivity → Audience → Permission → Visibility → Controlled Proof.
