Can you introduce yourself?

Perhaps you have felt this before.

Someone asks: “Can you introduce yourself?”

You pause for a few seconds.

Not because you have done too little. But because you do not know where to begin.

• The projects.
• The clients.
• The failures.
• The products.
• The sleepless nights.
• The decisions that changed the course of a career.

And in the end… you send a PDF.

Not because it tells the whole story.

But because it is the only way we were taught to tell it.

• One page.
• Two pages.
• A few bullet points.
• A few numbers.
• A few skills.
• A few companies.

And then we call it… “introducing ourselves.”

The strange thing is…

No one thinks this is unusual.

Imagine this.

You read a book. But you are allowed to read only the final page.

You watch a film. But you are allowed to see only the introduction.

You meet a person. But you are told only their milestones.

Perhaps… you still know what they did.

But you will never understand… why they did it.

A summary always has value.

It helps others see quickly. But it does not help them see deeply.

The problem was never the summary itself.

The problem is… we mistook it for the whole story.

Perhaps…

A person should not be remembered as a set of bullet points. Just as a book cannot be replaced by its table of contents.
