A Blank Page

There is a strange moment almost everyone experiences.

A blank screen or sheet of paper sits in front of you. The cursor blinks.

You are asked to write about yourself. Not a diary. Not a childhood story. Your first CV.

At first, a CV looks like a form: name, school, skills and experience.

But the longer you look, the clearer the question becomes: “What do I actually have to say?”

• School.
• Assignments.
• Clubs.
• Friendships.
• Failures.
• Early lessons.
• Dreams about the future.

A long human journey must suddenly be compressed into a handful of lines.

Writing a first CV reveals the distance between what we have lived and what we know how to present.

• Important experiences with nowhere to go.
• Moments of growth that belong to no field.
• Changes that cannot be explained by one skill label.

Not every form of value fits inside a template.

A CV is more than a job application document.

It is the first time we choose what to keep, what to remove and what deserves a few lines.

Life is translated into the language of work.

We are taught spelling, equations, history and literature.

But rarely how to review our journey, recognize value and tell the story of our own growth.

Most CVs describe what someone did.

• Skills without explaining how they developed.
• Experience without showing how the person changed.
• Titles without clarifying the value created.

The record may be accurate, yet still fail to reveal the person.

If a CV preserves only a small part of a life, is there a fuller way to represent a person?

More truthful. More vivid. More contextual.

That question follows many people for years.

Before long, the first CV leads to the first job.

And with an employment contract, a new identity begins to form: “I am…”
