People sometimes love so deeply that they try to decide for others. Parents live for their children, teachers demand the same path and leaders expect identical thinking. Yet growth appears only when a person is allowed to grow for themselves.
Parents create conditions, not destiny
Parents do not create a child’s future. They help create the conditions in which that future may form: safety, being heard, lived values and trust when the child falls.
Good products open possibilities instead of controlling
The creator once believed a perfect product was used exactly as designed. Later he saw that the longest-living products allow others to continue creating and open more possibilities.
Legacy is a bridge, not a rope to the past
A durable legacy is not a rope holding successors in the past. It is a bridge into a future the original creator may never see. Passing something on therefore requires knowing when to let go.
Values grow through thousands of small repetitions
In nature, beautiful things require time. Values are not formed in one lecture, but through thousands of small moments repeated every day.
Look again at the environment you create
Ask whether your family, classroom, team or product creates an environment where others can grow, or a system that keeps them dependent and identical to you.
Legacy helps others write their own lives
A person who leaves a legacy does not try to create a life for someone else. They create an environment in which others can write their own lives.
