From owning data to accessing data
The cloud is more than remote storage. It keeps data available and synchronized across devices, organizations and services.
Information was no longer locked inside one computer or one office.
Synchronization does not equal understanding
A profile can be updated in one place and appear almost instantly elsewhere.
The cloud moves data farther. It does not automatically understand what the data means.
Data remains fragmented without context
- A résumé.
- A certificate.
- A project.
- An article.
Without connecting context, they remain separate files.
We solved where data is, not what it says about a person
The cloud largely solved the question “Where is the data?”
It did not fully answer: “What does this data say about the person?”
Meaning must be synchronized too
As more systems connect, a shared language for interpreting data becomes essential.
We do not only need synchronized data. We need synchronized meaning.
The focus shifted from storage to relationships
The next stage of technology was no longer simply about storing more.
Value began to lie in connecting the relationships between data.
Cloud opened the way for Knowledge Graphs and AI
Knowledge Graphs emerged so computers could understand relationships, not merely store information.
Cloud became the foundation for Knowledge Graphs and AI.
The next question is how data relates
Once data could connect everywhere, the question was no longer where it lived.
The new question became: How are these pieces of data related?
